Thinking about making Richmond home? Beyond the numbers and the neighborhoods, a lot of people want to know what a city feels like — where the community gathers, whose doors are open, and where you'll find your people. This is that guide.
Richmond backs up its reputation. The Human Rights Campaign has given RVA a perfect 100 on its Municipal Equality Index for several years running, and the tourism-backed OutRVA initiative has championed the local queer community since 2014. It's also worth knowing that Virginia's Fair Housing Law protects both sexual orientation and gender identity — added statewide in 2020 — so your protections here are written into the law, not left to chance.

Bars & Nightlife
Babe's of Carytown — Founded in 1979, the oldest lesbian-rooted bar on the East Coast: drag, karaoke, live bands, line dancing, and a beach volleyball court out back. Everybody's welcome.
Barcode — A friendly Monroe Ward spot billed as Richmond's destination bar for the LGBTQIA+ community.
Godfrey's — Home of Richmond's nightly drag shows and a legendary weekend drag brunch.

When You're Ready to Make Richmond Home
Every part of the Richmond region has its own character, price range, and rhythm, and the best way to find your fit is to walk it, feel it, and ask questions. As a Richmond native and a local Realtor, I help buyers and sellers across the region navigate the market — from that first exploratory drive-around to closing day — with straightforward guidance and zero pressure.
